Mark Your Water Bottle: The 2-Minute Trick That Ends 'I Forgot to Drink Water'

Forgetting to drink water is a habit problem, not a willpower problem. Five marker lines on your bottle can fix it in two minutes.

Part of the “Small changes, big results” series.

The habit in one line

Mark your water bottle with times, and finish each line by that time.

Take a marker and write these on the side of your bottle, from top to bottom:

  • 9 am
  • 11 am
  • 1 pm
  • 3 pm
  • 5 pm

Your goal is simple: the water should be down to that line by that time.

Why it's worth doing for your hormones and cycle

When you are busy, water is the first thing you forget. A bottle with time marks turns “drink more water” into something you can see.

Staying hydrated supports your energy and focus through the day. And a day with steady energy makes it easier to eat well, move and sleep well. Those habits are what support your hormones.

What it can do for weight loss over time

Water is not a fat burner. But the habit helps in quiet ways:

  • It replaces some sugary drinks, like cold drinks and packaged juice
  • It gives you a regular nudge, so it keeps you on track through a busy day
  • It proves to you that you can stick to a small habit, which builds confidence for the next one

What to expect, and when

  • Week 1-2: You will miss a few lines. That is fine. Just catch up at the next one
  • Weeks 3-4: You glance at the bottle and sip without thinking
  • Month 2-3: The habit runs on its own. Many women find they are reaching for fewer sweet drinks

Imagine Ananya, 31, who works at a desk all day. She marks her bottle on Monday morning. By Wednesday she notices the 3 pm line is the one she keeps missing, so she sets a phone alarm just for that. By week three, she does not need the alarm.

That is how small changes become big results.

What it works best with

  • Regular meal times
  • Daily movement
  • Good sleep
  • Your treatment and follow-ups, if you have any

Think of it as the first domino. It is not a cure for PCOS.

A quick check before you start

  • Choose a bottle size that feels easy to finish through the day
  • Sip steadily. You don't need to gulp
  • If your doctor has asked you to limit fluids, or you have a kidney or heart condition, follow their advice instead

When to talk to a doctor

  • Very irregular periods, or no period for 3 months or more
  • Heavy or painful periods
  • Sudden weight gain or loss
  • Worsening acne, hair fall or facial hair
  • Extreme hunger, thirst or tiredness. Constant thirst can be a sign to get your blood sugar checked
  • Trouble conceiving after a year of trying (6 months if you are over 35)

Note: This is a habit-building tool. We did not find a study on marked bottles specifically, so we keep our claims modest.
